Watch as real teachers model successful strategies in elementary, middle, and high school settings. Learn what research says, implement new strategies in your classroom, and receive feedback from your course facilitator and colleagues through this course series. Explore the five core areas identified by the National Reading Panel: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Included in each of the interactive online courses in this series are both instructional components and application activities. Acquire understanding of reading as a process of student engagement in the construction of meaning. Demonstrate substantive knowledge of language structure, cognition, and differentiated instruction for each of the components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Learn to use reading assessments to screen, diagnose, monitor progress, and determine outcome measures. Actively engage students in results-producing reading strategies.

Discover the principles of scientifically-based reading research and learn the benefits of systematic, explicit teaching methods. Create dynamic lesson plans to aid struggling readers in content-area vocabulary and comprehension. Implement these plans in the classroom to demonstrate mastery of these two reading components.
