Reading 1: Language & Cognition, Part A Quick Look       Preview

Explore reading as a process of student engagement in construction of meaning. Gain substantive knowledge of language structure, function, and cognition for each of three major components: fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 1: Foundations in Language & Cognition). (30 credit hours)

Reading 1: Language & Cognition, Part B Quick Look       Preview

Explore reading as a process of student engagement in construction of meaning. Gain substantive knowledge of language structure, function, and cognition for each of these major components: phonemic awareness and phonics. Learn to integrate all five major components of the reading process. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 1: Foundations in Language & Cognition). (30 credit hours)

Reading 2: Research-Based Practices, Part A Quick Look       Preview

Identify principles of scientifically-based reading research as the foundation of comprehensive instruction that synchronizes and scaffolds each of the major components of the reading process toward student mastery. Demonstrate the ability to identify explicit, systematic instructional plans for scaffolding reading development in the areas of comprehension and vocabulary. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement or CAR-PD Program (Competency 2: Foundations of Research-Based Practices) . (30 credit hours)

Reading 2: Research-Based Practices, Part B Quick Look       Preview

Identify principles of scientifically-based reading research as the foundation of comprehensive instruction that synchronizes and scaffolds each of the major components of the reading process toward student mastery. Demonstrate the ability to identify explicit, systematic instructional plans for scaffolding reading development in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency. Explore research-based practices and guidelines for creating a language-rich and print-rich environment and for selecting appropriate literature. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement or CAR-PD Program (Competency 2: Foundations of Research-Based Practices). Reading 3: Assessment, Part A Quick Look       Preview

Examine different types of assessment, along with their concepts and characteristics. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to administer, interpret, and use formal and informal reading assessments for diverse students. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 3, Foundations of Assessment). (30 credit hours)

Reading 3: Assessment, Part B Quick Look       Preview

Build on the knowledge gained in Reading: Assessment, Part A and expand the skills necessary for administration and interpretation of reliable and valid instructional assessments for diverse students. Open new pathways for possible prevention, identification, and remediation of reading difficulties. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 3, Foundations of Assessment). (30 credit hours)

Reading 4: Foundations of Differentiation Quick Look       Preview

Understand cognitive, language, and reading development, including difficulties in five major reading components: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Explore the foundations of student differences, principles of differentiated instruction, and strategies for implementing differentiated instruction. Address differentiated instruction needs for LEP students and students with disabilities in reading. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 4: Foundations of Differentiation). (30 credit hours)

Reading 5: Applying Differentiated Instruction Quick Look       Preview

Experience key reading strategies and learn to integrate them into the content area text to enhance, enrich, and extend student learning in the differentiated classroom. See course prerequisites. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 5: Application of Differentiated Instruction). (30 credit hours)

Reading 6: Supervised Practicum, Part A Quick Look       Preview

Review aspects of the various competencies that lead to Florida’s K-12 Reading Endorsement in preparation for implementing the supervised practicum. This course serves as a practicum prerequisite and meets the guidelines for the clinical cohort activity required as part of the practicum. See course prerequisites. This course, in conjunction with Reading: Supervised Practicum, Part B, aligns with Florida’s Reading Endorsement Competency 6 indicators (Demonstration of Accomplishments). Note: This course is scheduled through districts. (12 credit hours)

Reading 6: Supervised Practicum, Part B Quick Look       Preview

Apply knowledge of research-based instructional practices for developing reading proficiency, while creating and implementing instructional plans. This course provides guidelines and direction for completion of all observations and documentations for the supervised practicum. See course prerequisites. This course, in conjunction with Reading: Supervised Practicum, Part A, aligns with Competency 6 indicators (Demonstration of Accomplishments). Note: This course is scheduled through districts.
