ESOL 5: Applied Linguistics, Part A Course Syllabus Participants explore concepts and principles of applied linguistics such as phonology, principles of English, sociolinguistics, language acquisition, and second language acquisition. Then they identify how these conceps and principles relate to English language learners (ELLs). 30 Credit Hours. Course Objectives

ESOL 6: Assessment Course Syllabus Identify factors that affect assessment of English language learners (ELLs) including linguistic bias, test adaptations and accommodations. Additionally, explore statewide assessment policies and interpretation of assessment data. ESOL 7: Differentiated Instruction, Part A Course Syllabus Learn the principles of differentiated instruction and how they apply to English language learners (ELLs). Additionally, learn to determine stages of language, reading, and cognitive development as it pertains to identifying the differing needs of students in the classroom. ESOL 7: Differentiated Instruction, Part B Course Syllabus Participants apply principles of differentiated instruction. They explore methods and strategies for identifying the needs of individual students who are in the process of acquiring English. Then, participants learn about differentiating content, process, and/or product in order to address and accommodate the different needs of students. 30 Credit Hours. Course Objectives

ESOL 8: Supervised Practicum Course Syllabus Participants review aspects of the various areas for ESOL coursework as determined by the Consent Decree and in compliance with Florida Performance Standards for Teachers of English for Speakers of Other Languages in preparation for implementing the supervised practicum. Then, they apply knowledge of ESOL appropriate instructional practices, while creating instructional plans. This course provides guidelines and direction for completion of the supervised practicum. 60 Credit Hours. Course Objectives
