Planning Tools
Beacon offers tools to contracting districts that simplify the professional development planning process. These tools allow districts to view and manage courses; create customized schedules; access all of Beacon's course content; and divide roles among staff members.
Division of Roles
There are two separate and distinct roles for district staff members; contract manager and district manager. Districts decide who fulfills these functions. The district manager role is optional; the contract manager role is essential, since this person is the registrar for a course. Only one contract manager can be assigned to each contract.
Contract managers are provided access to assigned contracts and certain tools in order to oversee the day-to-day enrollment and completion data of participants.
District managers are offered tools to view all of the contracts contained within their district. This allows administrative staff to have a first-hand glimpse of the activities in all contracts. The available tools and a breakdown of roles are offered below.
Current Contracts
A list of current contracts is available on the homepage of contract managers and a link to the list is available on the homepage of district managers. The list provided for each contract manager shows the contracts that are managed by that individual. The list provided for district managers shows all current contracts within that district.
Each list provides:
- The date each contract was initiated
- The end date of each contract
- The total number of hours purchased at the time each contract was initiated
- The total number of hours used to date from each contract
- The number of hours encumbered for current enrollments from each contract
- The number of hours that remain available for district use
To access your contract(s), login using the Administrative Login located in the District Access Zone.
Access to Beacon Educator Courses
Once a district contracts with Beacon, we make all courses in their entirety available to contract managers and district managers. To view the content any course:
- Login using the Administrative Login located in the District Access Zone.
- On the contract manger or district manager home page, locate the section entitled Course Preview.
- Choose Beacon Educator Courses; then select the name of the course that you wish to view.
Schedule Sections for a Contract
Beacon offers districts the flexibility of setting their own schedules. The planning of professional development schedules can be overwhelming. Beacon alleviates this stress by allowing contract managers full access to Beacon's planning and scheduling tools. These tools allow contract managers to add, edit, delete, or restore any course section. For the contract manager's convenience, each section created is uniquely numbered and corresponds to a specific contract. Contract managers are also able to view a visual display of proposed and activated courses for any specified period of time.
