Become aware of unique socio-emotional characteristics and needs that are typical of children who are gifted and ways that you can address them as a classroom teacher. Review socio-emotional theories and be introduced to guidance and counseling basics. Learn prevention and intervention strategies some of the issues gifted students might face related to interpersonal relationships, perfectionism, fear of failure, motivation, self-perception, and underachievement. This is the first part of a two-part course. (30 credit hours)

Explore creativity as it pertains to giftedness and the disciplines that have contributed to our understandings of this area of study. Explore methods for teaching creative attitudes and learn to identify aspects of creativity as well as methods for encouraging creative thinking in children. This is the first part of a two-part course. (30 credit hours)

Gain substantive knowledge of language structure, function, and cognition for each of three major components: fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Check with your district staff development office for credit eligibility toward Florida's Reading Endorsement (Competency 1: Foundations in Language & Cognition). (30 credit hours)
