Working in Course Summatives

Summatives are located at the end of most chapters within a course. A course's Summative Log provides a quick glance at the status of each summative (see status explanations below). Learners must successfully complete each summative before a course is marked complete. To access course summatives, log in at https://www.beaconeducator.com/.

To access the Summative Log

  • Use the Table of Contents located at the top left of the course page.
  • Select Summative Log at the bottom.

To access a specific summative via the Summative Log

  • Use the Table of Contents located at the top left of the course page.
  • Select Summative Log at the bottom.
  • Select the specific summative.
  • The Purpose page provides a brief introduction of the summative content. Under Summative Components, you will see each component associated with that summative.
  • Select the component you want to access.

To access a specific summative via the Table of Contents

  • Use the Table of Contents located at the top left of the course page.
  • Select the corresponding chapter to expand the chapter contents.
  • Select the specific summative.
  • The Purpose page provides a brief introduction of the summative content. Under Summative Components, you will see each component associated with that summative.
  • Select the component you want to access.

Summative Status:

  • In Progress:
    • Learner viewed the summative. Learner may have entered and saved responses. Learner has not submitted the summative, and the facilitator cannot review it.
    • Note: If a summative has only one task, click Submit to Facilitator. If a summative has multiple tasks, click Save & Next on each page, and click Submit to Facilitator on the last page.
  • Submitted: Learner submitted a response. The facilitator will review the submission.
  • Needs Revision: The facilitator has reviewed the submission and provided instructions for revisions. Learner must make revisions and resubmit the summative for further review and possible approval.
  • Revised: Learner submitted a revised response. The facilitator will review the submission.
  • Approved with Comments: Learner's summative meets criteria for approval.
  • Available (date): The summative will be available beginning on the date shown.
  • Available Now: The quiz is now available.
  • Started: Learner has started but has not completed and submitted the quiz.
  • Last Attempt: Learner took the quiz on the date/time shown. Learner can retake the quiz until a passing score is earned.
  • Passed: Learner passed the quiz.

Summative Types:

  • File Uploads: Learner demonstrates implementation of course content by submitting documentation of a specified activity.
  • Lesson Plans: Learner creates a standards-based plan for instruction.
  • Quizzes/Exams: Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting the correct answer from the choices provided.
  • Reflections: Learner synthesizes previous knowledge and course content to develop a narrative response.
  • Video Uploads: Learner demonstrates implementation of course content by providing a video submission of a specified activity.
