Explore how teachers can help homeless students. Get ideas, learn the law, and understand rights of homeless students.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the basic requirements of McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act of 2001 and the Education for Homeless Children and Youth Program.
  • Identify the federal criteria used for determining eligibility of homeless students.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the barriers faced by homeless students which impede their academic success.
  • Explore classroom implications and strategies for assisting a homeless student.

Documentation Methods

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.

1 Multiple Choice Quiz - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting the correct answer from the choices provided.

The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
