Description

Explore appropriate practices and methods for creating a positive classroom environment which results in effective classroom management and which connects character education to the curriculum. This course replaces the previous course, Classroom Management.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify attributes of the elementary, middle school, and high school student.
  • Identify the components, strategies, and tips for creating a positive classroom environment utilizing elements of character-based classroom management.
  • Describe how character education will be incorporated into the curriculum to create a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness and support.
  • Identify specific ways to manage time, space, and classroom procedures and routines.
  • Identify methods for learning to communicate with students optimally.
  • Identify ways to collaborate with home, school, and other stakeholders to foster communication and obtain resources to support diverse student learning and continuous improvement, respectful of students’ cultural, linguistic, and family backgrounds and that accommodate the different needs and diversity of students.
  • Identify the necessity of teacher professional responsibility and ethical conduct.

Documentation Methods

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summatives.

1 Multiple Choice Exam - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting the correct answer from the choices provided.
3 Reflections - Learner synthesizes previous knowledge and course content in order to develop a narrative response.

The summatives must meet 80% of the established criteria.
