Description
Learn to build relationships with parents in order to enhance students' academic growth. Explore a variety of techniques to increase parent involvement. Create a classroom Website with the potential to increase communication with parents.
Learning Objectives
- Demonstrates an understanding of the basic concepts of parent/family involvement and the research associated with its effect on student achievement.
- Identifies the types of parent involvement.
- Demonstrates an understanding of Title I Parent Involvement Requirements in Every Child Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Identifies the different sub-groups of parents.
- Identifies the barriers parents/families face in becoming involved with the student’s education.
- Identifies strategies to remove barriers to parent/family relationships with the school.
- Identifies critical issues associated with working with parents from poverty and strategies to improve parent-teacher relationships.
- Identifies strategies to create positive school environments that welcome parents and families.
- Develops a communications tool using technology to communicate and collaborate with parents, families, and the larger community in order to enhance the parent/teacher relationship and nurture student learning.
Documentation Methods
Participants must document their learning by completing the following summatives.
1 Multiple Choice Exam - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting
the correct answer from the choices provided.
3 Reflections - Learner synthesizes previous knowledge and course content in
order to develop a narrative response.
The summatives must meet 80% of the established criteria.
