Description

Gain an understanding of Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Mathematics Standards and the Mathematical Thinking and Reasoning Standards (MTRs). Learn how the benchmarks promote excellence in student thinking about math.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify improvements to the state math standards with the implementation of the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics.
  • Understand the progression and coding scheme of the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics.
  • Understand the meaning of fluency and automaticity within the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics.
  • Identify the purpose for each appendix in the B.E.S.T. Standards for Mathematics.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the MTRs.

  • Identify the student and teacher moves that are associated with each of the MTRs.

  • Understand the purpose and usefulness of the B.E.S.T. Instructional Guides for Mathematics (B1G-M). 

  • Identify the components of the B1G-M.

  • Understand the differences between an Instructional Task and an Instructional Item.

Documentation Methods

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.

1 Multiple Choice Exam - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting the correct answer from the choices provided.

The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
