Description
Learn how effective classroom management systems and strategies build resiliency in students with disabilities and support all students. Explore how positive behavior interventions and resiliency support practices help all students develop resiliency and cope with everyday stress. This module addresses Florida's professional learning requirements from SB 1108 - Students with Disabilities (SWD).
Learning Objectives
- Identify the components of an effective classroom management system, including classroom rules and classroom procedures.
- Explain how an effective classroom management system can help students with disabilities thrive in the classroom, including strong teacher-student relationships and a positive classroom environment.
- Describe how the differing needs of students, including students with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emotional/behavioral disorder (E/BD), and specific learning disabilities (SLD), along with the co-occurrence of ADHD/ADD, can affect the classroom management plan.
- Identify a few additional types of challenging behaviors and why they occur.
- Define resiliency support practices and describe how they are used to build resilience in students.
- Explain how resiliency support practices can be used in conjunction with a school’s PBIS program.
- Describe different resiliency support practices and when to use them.
Documentation Methods
Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.
1 Multiple Choice Exam - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting
the correct answer from the choices provided.
The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
