Description

Investigate strategies for proficiency in number operations, computing fluency, computing with fractions, and computing with decimals. Practice problem solving using number operations to make real-world connections.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify concrete and visual models for addition and subtraction.
  2. Identify concrete and visual models for multiplication and division.
  3. Identify technology resources for modeling whole number operations.
  4. Describe ways to use contextual and concrete models for problem solving.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of mental math strategies to build computational fluency.
  6. Define estimation strategies for computation.
  7. Identify strategies for students to show they can communicate mathematical ideas.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to encourage flexibility in strategies used for problem solving.
  9. Demonstrate an understanding of the progression of fractions and best practices for teaching fractions with older students.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of how to model and represent addition and subtraction of fractions.
  11. Demonstrate an understanding of how to model and represent multiplication and division of fractions.
  12. Develop lessons that will promote understanding of fraction operations.
  13. Demonstrate an understanding of how to represent decimal addition and subtraction.
  14. Develop activities that will promote understanding of proportional reasoning.
  15. Demonstrate an understanding of how multiplication and division relate to ratios and rates.

Documentation Methods

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.

4 Reflections - Learner synthesizes previous knowledge and course content in order to develop a narrative response.

The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
