Description

Examine the role of an instructional paraprofessional in creating a positive classroom learning environment. Learn basic instructional strategies and classroom management techniques to assist the classroom teacher.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of teachers and paraprofessionals.
  • Explore commonly used learning theories by Bloom and Webb.
  • Review Piaget’s theory on the four stages of cognitive development.
  • Identify appropriate strategies and techniques to provide instructional support. (Marzano’s nine instructional strategies for effective teaching and learning)
  • Adapt instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of the student under the direction of a certified teacher.
  • Identify classroom management strategies and skills to enhance student motivation and learning.
  • Explore strategies for using learning time effectively and maintaining instructional momentum.

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.

3 Reflections - Learner synthesizes previous knowledge and course content in order to develop a narrative response.

The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
