Explore how teachers can help homeless students. Get ideas, learn the law, and understand rights of homeless students.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a basic understanding of the many complex barriers faced which impede students’ academic success for those living in temporary, unstable housing.
  • Identify the federal definition of homeless used by all U.S. public schools for determining eligibility for support services.
  • Understand the basic requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act for schools and districts.
  • Explore strategies for assisting and identifying students experiencing homelessness.

Documentation Methods

Participants must document their learning by completing the following summative.

1 Multiple Choice Exam - Learner demonstrates knowledge of content by selecting the correct answer from the choices provided.

The summative must meet 80% of the established criteria.
